Slavery, Addictions and Taxes
slav·er·y
A system based on compelling labor of other people
Wherever we find slavery, most would agree it should be eliminated. The three key elements of slavery are 1) Compulsion - backed by force and 2) Labor - action or work 3) Person can't escape at will
Addiction meets the criterea. An addicted person is compelled to engage in the addiction more than if a slavemaster whipped him, the addicted person will work to fulfill his addictive need and he is bound by the addiction. Often the work performed (i.e. crime) is counter-productive to societal goals. The main objection to illicit drug use is the anti-social behavior by addicts, not the drug use itself. Libertarians and Liberals would do well to outlaw addiction and Conservatives might consider easing-up on non-addictive behavior.
Income tax also meets the criterea because a person is compelled to work a good portion of the year for the sole purpose of paying taxes. The more taxes, the more the person is in a state of slavery. At least the person escapes the state of slavery for the remaining portion of the year. There are taxes that don't compel slavery (e.g. import/export, sales tax, etc.) directly. It is surprising that the free-est country on earth turned to the income tax as the primary means of government revenues. Could it be that the income tax places the least burden on the corporation?
In effect, tax dollars are freedom, given up by the American people and that makes those dollars the most expensive dollars there are.
